HRH Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck, Queen of Bhutan, visited the island paradise with her daughter on a rare private trip away from her mountain kingdom, praising the renowned eco-resort and its care for the local environment and community.
The Queen came to the resort, situated on the Koh Yao Noi Island, close to Phuket in Southern Thailand, together with her daughter, HRH Princess Ashi Euphelma Choden Wangchuck guided by an aide of the Thai royal court.
After being welcomed by local government officials the queen had lunch at the resort where she stated that the purpose of her visit was to see a good example of an environmentally caring and community friendly modern resort in Thailand.
As an UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador the Queen is actively involved in promoting social causes such as health, education and family issues.
The Queen praised the Koyao Island Resort for its efforts to protect the magnificent nature in the area and for its close ties to the people in the local community.
Before leaving, the Queen found time to talk to some of the guest and she thanked the management for the reception – especially for flying a Bhutanese flag for her on such short notice.
