Koyao Island Resort is located on Koh Yao Noi in the famous archipelago of Phang Nga Bay in southern Thailand. Remote, yet easily accessible, we are surrounded by secluded beaches, rain forests and uninhabited islands in a place where mass tourism and hotels are far away and the original Thai hospitality has free reign.
Our resort is designed in a traditional Thai architectural style which blends graciously into a coconut palm setting. Each villa faces the beach for stunning views over the bay.

My wife and I stayed at the Koyao Island Resort for 3 nights in the middle of our Asian anniversary trip and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The resort is in a stunning location on a private beach with incredible views of the limestone islands from nearly everywhere you were. Our room was an open air private villa with one of the best outdoor showers I've ever used as it was actually in a small garden. The staff was also there to meet your every request. We happened to miss the days of the free boat tours (Tuesdays and Saturdays), but Donnie arranged a special tour for us and a few other guests to make sure we got to experience one of the best aspects of the area, the nearby limestone islands.
They also have kayaks and bikes to rent for free that you can use to kayak to a nearby (45m - 60m) island or bike around the island. The bikes were a bit old, but there were free so we couldn't complain.
There are a decent amount of mosquitoes, but the resort provided a full bottle of natural bug spray and had mosquito nets on the beds, so we didn't get bit much.
Overall great staff, a great intimate resort and an amazing location, one of the best resorts we've stayed at!
Koyao was our last stop on our two week Thailand honeymoon, and it was truly the perfect way to end our trip. Koyao is a beautiful, pristine, peaceful little paradise with the most picturesque views you can imagine. The grounds are immaculate and there are so many small touches that make the stay comfortable and truly exceptional (complimentary massages after breakfast, fresh fruit passed around in the afternoon, etc). We were excited to have our room upgraded and we received a complimentary bottle of prosecco which was such a kind gesture. The room was lovely, spacious, and very private. Two lounge chairs by the beach directly in front of our room were always available for us, and by the pool there were always plenty of lounges. Delicious complimentary breakfast, lunches and dinners in the restaurant as well as snack foods at the bar. Prices were more expensive that elsewhere in Thailand but still seemed inexpensive to us and the portions were large. Our only complaint is that bar snack food was not allowed to be eaten by the pool-- this was annoying and while they must have a reason for it it seems silly.
The rooms are slightly open air and the bathroom in our room was completely open air. There are mosquitoes which were very noticeable but they light mosquito coils in the evenings, there is a mosquito net on the bed, and they provide repellent. The bugs were not a big deal, we found that they did not seem to bite much and were much less annoying then the flies we experienced on Koh Lanta. But, you should be aware that there are critters and it's part of the experience.
The best part about Koyao was the staff. They were all ALWAYS smiling and friendly. Ma made great drinks and Ta gave an incredible aloe massage. Mao (?) at the restaurant was so friendly. My parents were in touch with the hotel before our arrival and corresponded back and forth several times to try to coordinate a surprise for my husband and I and they said that the person they spoke with was incredibly helpful and kind. This was much appreciated.
Two tips- I wish we had held off on the incredibly crowded snorkel trip we did from Koh Lanta and done a more expensive, but more private trip from Koyao. The extra cost would have been worth it I'm sure for a more private experience. Also, we almost booked the hotel's private long boat transfer back to Krabi airport-- so glad we didn't as the non-private option, though not quite as convenient because it doesn't leave from Koyao's beach, costs 1/3 of the price and was still incredibly efficient!!
In the end, we never left the hotel during our four night stay, which for us is surprising as we are usually eager to explore outside of a hotel but we were so relaxed we felt we had no reason or desire to leave. We were truly sad when it was time to go.
